I always design with the location as my lead inspiration. Miami is vastly different from NYC in climate and overall vibe, plus our apartment in Miami is in a new contemporary beachfront building which is very different from our pre-war Manhattan apartment. I wanted Quinn’s Miami nursery to embrace this contemporary nature as well as the Miami Beach “hip but chill” style— without being kitschy.
Contemporary, elevated, inviting
My favorite piece in the room (other than my Nestig crib of course!) is the white giraffe. So often you see the typical stuffed giraffe toy, but I love that this one is all white. I think it aligns with the serenity of the room while still adding a playful touch.
Funny you should ask! I actually purchased the crib sheet with a tree because one of my favorite books to read to Quinn is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I am trying my best to subtly drive the point home that it is incredibly important to be a giving person, but it doesn’t hurt that the sheets are uber chic.
I wish I saw more sophisticated, unique nursery design. I find that so many people designing a modern nursery turn to cheesy wallpaper, when there is so much more you can do to add a playful twist. I would love to see more whimsical wallpapers, ones you wouldn’t even expect to necessarily see in a nursery, or unique stuffed animals like our white giraffe.
I find the calming ritual of bottle feeding Quinn and then rocking him to sleep makes for a perfect wind down to each day. There is just something about the serenity of his nursery that puts me at ease.
